Gameweek 7 Review: All the key takeaways from every GW7 game

Couldn’t watch the games? No problem, we’ve got you covered. In this article, we’ll go through all the key points from Gameweek 7 and analyse every game from an FPL perspective
Everton Vs Chelsea

Chelsea were clearly the better team and could have scored even more goals. Everton also had chances to get on the scoresheet, but poor finishing let them down.
Palmer: Unlike in previous games, I thought Palmer was better than Rogers. He found good spaces and could even have scored Chelsea’s first goal instead of Neto. He had the most shots in the game (6) and delivered a strong performance overall.
Rogers: Rogers didn’t have a good game at LM. Two shots off target, two chances created and 11 DEFCON points were the main outcomes of his performance. Perhaps Alonso wanted something different from Rogers in this game
Pedro: Apart from one moment when he wasted a 3v1 opportunity following Palmer’s pass, Pedro offered very little and struggled to help the team.
Neto: His second goal was arguably fortunate, but the first was all about excellent positioning. He also created the most chances in the game (5). Honestly, with Palmer, Rogers and Pedro already competing for attacking returns, it’s difficult to justify bringing Neto in.
Barry: He had three shots inside the box but failed to convert any of them. He could easily have scored at least once.
Dewsbury-Hall: Unlike in previous games, he didn’t have much space to express himself and his overall performance wasn’t particularly impressive.
Final Thoughts
Everton are one of the more defensive teams in the league, so there’s no need to lose faith in Chelsea’s attackers just because they didn’t deliver in this game. I still believe in at least two Chelsea attacking options. As for Everton, I’ll make my decision after their Arsenal fixture.
Brentford vs Liverpool

I didn’t think Brentford were a bad team. They looked dangerous on the counter-attack but average when building up slowly. Liverpool were the better side, creating good chances and easily could have scored more goals.
Isak: I thought his performance was relatively poor, with just 2 shots and 16 touches in 80 minutes. What makes me want to bring him in? His ability to score from difficult chances.
Wirtz: It seems he’s finally stopped focusing on scoring and started creating chances instead. He created the most chances in the game (9), and his heat map suggests he’s playing as a half-winger.
Barcola: He missed a one-on-one chance worth 0.34 xG but still had the most shots in the game (4). His assist was largely thanks to Isak’s excellent movement.
Muñoz: He scored an absolutely brilliant goal and has great potential, but it’s a shame his form is so inconsistent.
Thiago: He was much better than in previous games, getting into wide areas and trying to contribute to the build-up. However, he’s still not someone I’d bring in just yet.
Brentford Wingers: Anthony was the best of the bunch with 4 shots. Overall, though, they were disappointing and offered very little beyond counter-attacks.
Lewis-Potter: He’s been a good player since the start of the season, getting forward and performing well individually. The only downside is that he’s listed as a midfielder but plays in defence.
Final Thoughts
If I want one Liverpool player, it’s Isak. I’d avoid Barcola because of Gakpo’s return. As for Brentford, none of their players have a place in my team.
Fulham vs Hull City

Fulham were miles better than Hull City, who offered almost nothing throughout the game. With better finishing, Fulham could easily have won 3-0.
Garcia: Apart from a header that hit the post and an assist that Iwobi failed to convert, Garcia was largely uninvolved. However, those two chances could have been enough for a return.
King: He missed a great chance but created the most chances in the game (3). I consider him unlucky, but the next game will be his final chance to stay in my team.
Iwobi: He had the most shots (5) and created the most chances (3). It was a brilliant performance, and he could have scored a brace, but his finishing let him down.
Bobb: He also had 5 shots and was more involved in the game than genuinely dangerous. Unfortunately, he picked up an injury as well.
Hull City Players: Hull were awful both offensively and defensively. They looked slightly better at the back, but were lucky not to concede more goals.
Final Thoughts
I currently own King and Egan. Egan will stay in my team as a budget-saving option, but King will be sold after the Coventry game. That’s my recommendation for everyone.
Manchester city vs Ipswich

As expected, Man City were much better in attack. I wouldn’t trust their defence, but their attackers are worth considering. Ipswich also had a decent game, just as we expected.
Doku: He had a good, though not outstanding, performance. He provided an assist and made some dangerous runs, but managed just 1 shot and 1 chance created.
Foden: His positioning is excellent, often getting into the box alongside Haaland. After his hat-trick, he’s back on my radar. He also created the most chances (3) and had 3 shots.
Ndiaye: He was very active throughout the game, with plenty of movement and runs into the box. He finished with 4 shots off target, a shot against the post and 0.88 xG.
Dias : He had 3 shots and the most touches in the game. He could even have scored and pushed forward a lot during attacks. However, he still has work to do before becoming a serious FPL option.
Ipswich Players: No one really impressed enough to deserve a special mention. Ouattara provided an assist but also received a yellow card and made an error leading to a goal. Maeda did very little apart from scoring, while Emerson wasn’t particularly effective in terms of shooting or overall contribution.
Final Thoughts
I’m more confident in Man City’s attack than their defence. If you’re willing to accept the risks of a sudden drop in form, rotation and unexpected injuries, consider bringing in Foden. I’m probably going to get him myself.
Newcastle vs Aston villa

Aston Villa were the better team. Don’t let the xG difference fool you; the way Villa attacked was on a completely different level compared to Newcastle.
Jackson: Jackson should have had at least a goal or an assist. He had plenty of chances but failed to convert them, finishing with 4 shots and 3 chances created.
Manzambi: Still Villa’s best player in my opinion. He consistently gets into good positions, even when his teammates don’t find him with a pass. His goal was a perfect example of that.
Buendia & Mbaye: I wish Mbaye had started. His pace and ability to trouble an entire defence make him a very exciting option. Buendia, meanwhile, had an average performance.
Hall: A fairly ordinary game, with 2 chances created but no shots. He still takes Newcastle’s corners, though.
Barnes: He created the most chances (3) and had 3 shots, but all were blocked. I expected more from him.
Wissa: He had 9 shots but failed to score. He seemed determined to prove himself as a good striker, shooting whenever possible. However, this also led him to miss opportunities to pass to teammates.
Final Thoughts
Villa were much better. My top Villa picks are Manzambi and Jackson, in that order. Should I give Hall another chance? I’m still not sure.
Bournemouth vs Sunderland

One word to describe Sunderland: disastrous. Bournemouth, on the other hand, were excellent and could easily have scored four or five goals.
Evanilson: He had 6 shots and created 2 chances. He could easily have scored a hat-trick from those opportunities, but his finishing let him down. Still, he’s a good differential option if you’re looking for one.
Tavernier: He consistently gets himself into good positions, and whenever the ball reaches him, he seems to have a chance to score. He was unlucky in this game and could have picked up an assist as well.
Rayan: A differential that not many managers are looking at. He was genuinely unlucky, registering the most shots in the game (7), but every attempt was saved. He finished without creating a single chance.
Kluivert: He came on late but still managed to generate 0.3 xG and missed some good opportunities.
Final Thoughts
I’m not sure whether Bournemouth were simply excellent or Sunderland were absolutely disastrous. If we assume Bournemouth were genuinely that good, Evanilson is my first choice, followed by Tavernier.
Brighton vs Crystal Palace

Brighton were much more organised and significantly better than Palace. Palace had a few chances, but they were nowhere near Brighton’s level.
Gross: He doesn’t get into the box very often, but he can still be dangerous. His assist was fortunate, and he managed just 1 chance created and 2 shots. An average performance overall.
De Cuyper: He focused more on creating chances than shooting, finishing the game without a single shot. However, he created the most chances in the match (4).
Kostoulas: A good performance, with the most shots in the game (4). He’s the kind of player who shoots whenever he gets the opportunity, regardless of his position. He remains in my team.
Vuskovic: An xG of 0.37 is excellent for a centre-back. He also provided an assist and is a major threat from corners. If you’re worried about De Cuyper’s rotation risk, Vuskovic is a good alternative.
Palace Players: A disastrous performance from the entire team. They had no real attacking structure and lacked the finishing quality to make their chances count. They simply weren’t good enough.
Final Thoughts
I own Kostoulas, Gross and De Cuyper, and I’ll keep all three as long as Brighton maintain this level of performance. As for Palace, forget about them for now. There are plenty of better options available at similar prices.
Leeds vs Manchester united

Both teams were fairly evenly matched. They created dangerous opportunities, but the game remained tight throughout.
Bruno Fernandes: He had the most shots in the game (3), but none were particularly dangerous. He created just 1 chance, which isn’t good enough.
Mbeumo: Perhaps Man Utd’s best FPL option right now. He scored a goal and had 3 shots without creating a chance. Mbeumo can deliver points through his individual form.
Calvert-Lewin: His goal was more down to Muharemovic than his own brilliance. He had 3 shots and put in a decent performance. Perhaps it’s time to trust him again.
Bogle: He still makes good forward runs and creates chances. His attacking involvement was lower than in previous games, but his role remains the same.
Muharemovic: A centre-back who had the most touches in the opposition box (5). He’s strong in the air and a genuine threat from set pieces. If you can afford him, you don’t need to look elsewhere for another defender.
Final Thoughts
I currently own Bogle, but Muharemovic is the better player. I’m not considering any Man Utd assets for now, but if I were to bring one in, Mbeumo would be my choice.
Nottingham forest vs Arsenal

I saw this as an even game. Both teams created good attacking opportunities but struggled with their finishing.
Saka: He was involved in the build-up and carried the ball forward, but managed just 1 chance created and didn’t even register a shot. A disappointing performance.
Rice: He provided an assist and created the most chances in the game (3). Given his performance against Chelsea, he might be worth considering.
Calafiori: He didn’t make the forward runs we’ve seen in previous games and even made a mistake that could have led to a goal. Still, he’s worth holding on to.
Gabriel: He had a header and received the ball inside the box. Perhaps it’s time for his attacking returns to start coming.
Delap: He had the most shots in the game (4), but his overall performance wasn’t good enough to find the net.
Murillo: Two shots and 2 chances created from a centre-back. Murillo has been my favourite Forest defender from the very beginning.
Final Thoughts
Gibbs-White is back, and he’s the only Forest player I’m considering. As for Arsenal, their defence might be enough for me.
Tottenham vs Coventry City

Both teams were average, although Tottenham played better. However, they also had some luck at certain points in the game.
Solanke: He had the most shots in the game (3) and put in an average performance. I believe his goals will start coming soon.
Van Hecke: He almost played as a CDM, spending much of the game in advanced positions, but without making a significant impact. He should move back into defence once Porro returns.
Maddison: He scored a spectacular goal, but created just one other chance. There’s still some time before I’d consider bringing him in.
Kudus: He provided another assist, finishing with 2 chances created and 2 shots. However, it’s still too early to consider bringing him in.
Van Ewijk: He created the most chances in the game and was constantly involved at both ends of the pitch. However, Thomas, with his DEFCON potential, remains the better option.
Final Thoughts
Tottenham are getting better with every game, but I’m still unsure whether any of their players are worth bringing in. For now, they’re still a no for me. The same goes for Coventry.
