Gameweek 4 Review: All the key takeaways from every GW4 game
Couldn’t watch the games? No problem — we’ve got you covered. In this article, we’ll go through all the key points from Gameweek 4 and analyse every game from an FPL perspective
Bournemouth vs Brentford
Bournemouth were significantly better than Brentford. They played a very attacking and impressive game, creating plenty of good chances throughout the match
Tavernier & Kluivert: Both had an excellent game. Tavernier has maintained his form since the start of the season and continues to look good. With Kluivert, however, this was the first game where I really saw those special and dangerous moments from him. So if I had to choose between the two, my preference would be Tavernier > Kluivert
Truffert: He made some excellent attacking runs, created chances and looked dangerous throughout the game. He also picked up DEFCON points, making him an interesting option. However, at his price, I don’t think he’s worth it
Rayan & Scott: Both had several good opportunities, but unfortunately neither could finish their chances and neither managed to return
Brentford: Schade scored one header and got another goal after a mistake from Petrovic. Other than that, I didn’t see much from Brentford’s players, especially Thiago. Potter did have a few dangerous chances
Final Thoughts
I think the time to buy Bournemouth assets is coming soon — and maybe it has already arrived. With the way Bournemouth are attacking, even Chelsea and Liverpool might not be safe against them.
For me, Tavernier > Kluivert.
As for Brentford, I’m staying away from them for now
Aston Villa vs Nottingham Forest
Forest were much better than Villa in attack. They looked far more dangerous going forward, with Munoz, Gibbs-White and Neco Williams all heavily involved in their attacking moves
Delap: He was genuinely better than I expected. He’s still not an FPL option for me, but he had the most shots in the game. If he keeps starting and continues performing like this, he could potentially become an option
Munoz: One word — outstanding. Almost every attack down the right involved Munoz. He was extremely unlucky not to get a goal or an assist because he had plenty of opportunities, but Suzuki made the saves to deny him
McGinn: Probably the only attacking Villa player who had a decent game. Villa weren’t particularly good overall, but McGinn’s individual performance was still better than the rest
Gibbs-White: He remains Forest’s main attacking option. He was active and involved throughout the game, creating 7 chances, including 3 big chances. He also takes set pieces, so if I want an attacking player from Forest, Gibbs-White is my choice
Neco Williams & Murillo: Neco Williams had a quieter game compared to his previous performances. He was still active, but I’d rate his performance as average. When it comes to Forest defenders, I’d rather go for someone who is dangerous from corners and can pick up DEFCON points — and that’s Murillo for me
Ndoye: Despite his match rating, I didn’t think he had such a bad game. He was unlucky and could have managed a return
Final Thoughts
If I want one asset from Forest, it’s definitely Gibbs-White. If I want a defender, I’d definitely go for Murillo.
As for Villa? I’m not bringing anyone in
Chelsea vs Hull City
Both teams played good attacking football. If it wasn’t for the goalkeepers, this game could easily have produced a lot more goals
Belloumi: He had a good overall performance, although both of his goals were fortunate and came from defensive mistakes. Outside of those goals, he still put in a decent performance
Rogers: Rogers was better than Palmer in this game, mainly because he was getting into better positions. He wasn’t really focused on creating chances, but if his finishing had been better, he could have scored a brace
Palmer: As I’ve mentioned before, Palmer does more playmaking and often doesn’t get into the box. Even so, I thought he had a decent game and could have returned more points
Joao Pedro: A decent performance from Pedro. His assist was more down to Rogers’ finishing than individual brilliance, but Pedro is the kind of player who takes advantage of every opportunity. His second goal was a perfect example of that
James: A good option in Chelsea’s defence. He had the joint-most shots for the team and also takes corners and set pieces
Final Thoughts
Rogers had the better performance compared to Palmer, but I don’t expect Palmer to keep blanking in the coming weeks.
Pedro is a must-have for me. I really like the idea of owning Rogers, Pedro and Palmer together, and I think it’s worth it
Crystal palace vs Ipswich
Ipswich were significantly better throughout the game. Palace weren’t terrible, but they weren’t particularly good either. They looked very poor defensively, while Ipswich looked strong going forward
Khalaili: He found himself in several excellent positions, very similar to Munoz last season. The difference is that Khalaili has better physicality and a strong desire to score. He could have had an even more impressive performance
Davis: As I’ve mentioned before, Davis gets forward and also gets into the box. His attacking runs led to an assist, while his presence in the box helped him get on the scoresheet
Enciso & Mitchell: Neither had a particularly interesting game. There were no special moments or anything that really stood out enough to mention.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, I’m avoiding both teams. If I ever use a Wildcard and need a 4.0m option, I’d consider Davis alongside the Hull options.
As for Khalaili, I think he’s simply too expensive for what he offers
Liverpool vs Fulham
Fulham were better than Liverpool defensively. Liverpool made two errors and were very lucky to keep a clean sheet. Fulham also looked more organised and had a clearer plan in their play
Isak: He genuinely could have scored. Despite his rating, I didn’t think it was a particularly bad performance from Isak. Even with Liverpool’s attack struggling, he was still taking players on, dribbling and creating dangerous situations
Wirtz: He was active and lively throughout the game, but honestly, his form isn’t good. It doesn’t seem to matter where he receives the ball — he keeps wasting opportunities and losing possession
Szoboszlai: He remains an option for me. He’s still taking dangerous shots and creating chances. The day he gets a big haul, I’ll remind you of this analysis
King: Perhaps still Fulham’s best player. He had the most shots and also had a great chance that was saved by Alisson. In easier fixtures, King is definitely an option.
Barcola, Munoz & Castagne: It was a fairly average game from all three — neither particularly good nor bad. Munoz was individually better, but Liverpool’s attacks weren’t great overall. Things improved after Gakpo came on. Castagne and Barcola didn’t do much
Final Thoughts
If you own Szoboszlai, I’d only sell him if you’re bringing in Gibbs-White. Otherwise, I don’t think it’s worth the move.
Isak can still be an option, but Wirtz is a sell for me. And keep an eye on King for a future Wildcard, especially with Fulham’s good fixtures
Tottenham vs Everton
Both teams attacked well, but there was very little end product or structure. The game was mostly played around both teams’ lack of organisation, although there were still some FPL options to consider
Dewsbury-Hall: He remains my number one Everton option. He takes corners, gets into good positions and could easily have returned in this game
Barry : He had the most shots in the game. Barry was also unlucky not to get a return, but I think his time to deliver a haul could be coming in the next few games.
Everton Defenders : Apart from Niles and Mykolenko, most of Everton’s defenders are in a similar price range. So the choice mainly comes down to personal preference
Final Thoughts
Honestly, I don’t really care how Tottenham are playing — they simply aren’t an FPL target for me.
For Everton, my attacking options are Dewsbury-Hall first, then Barry
Sunderland vs Arsenal
I saw an excellent game from both sides and really enjoyed it. Sunderland showed themselves to be a hard-working and attacking team that could have caused Arsenal a lot of problems
Le Fée: Apart from missing the penalty, you could say he had a decent game. Arsenal were very lucky to keep a clean sheet, and Le Fée’s assists could easily have ended in goals
Havertz: He wasn’t particularly active, but he had two good chances and was unlucky not to score. I still believe the striker role is his and that he’ll remain a starter
Ødegaard: An excellent performance. He was directly involved in most of Arsenal’s dangerous attacks and created the most chances. He was unlucky that his assists weren’t converted
Saka: He had the most shots and regularly found himself in good positions. he also had a good game and is still an option for me. However, his poor finishing is frustrating
Calafiori & White: Both were less active than in previous games, mainly because of how dangerous Sunderland were. I didn’t see anything particularly special from either of them.
Final Thoughts
For the first time, I felt Arsenal were under a lot more pressure than usual, which made them play more cautiously.
For Arsenal’s attacking options, my order would be Ødegaard > Saka > Havertz.
As for Sunderland, I don’t think it’s time to buy their players now. However, if you already own one, you can keep them
Coventry vs Brighton
Brighton were much better overall, but Coventry still created some serious chances that could easily have ruined Brighton’s clean sheet
Yalcouyé: He was very active and dynamic throughout the game. He had two great chances and managed to score one of them. He is getting into the box more often, but he still spends a lot of time operating in the wide areas.
Groß: As I mentioned before, his returns were due to start, and that’s exactly what happened. He created the most chances in the game (6), won a penalty and takes corners — basically everything we wanted from Pascal Groß.
De Cuyper: He had a good game and created four chances. However, most of his attacking involvement comes through chance creation rather than shooting, with just one shot in this game.
Kostoulas: A good performance from Kostoulas, who could have scored even more. He looks dangerous whenever he gets on the ball.
Verbruggen: If Brighton kept a clean sheet, it was mainly because of Verbruggen. He made 6 saves and prevented around 2 xG. Brighton owe their clean-sheet points to him.
Final Thoughts
Forget Coventry.
Brighton’s fixtures make things a little difficult, but if I owned Groß, I’d keep him. For the other Brighton players, I might consider selling
Man united vs Man City
I thought United were the better team in terms of attacking play, but City looked more clinical. If United had taken their chances, they could have won the game.
Enzo: I really liked his performance. He gets forward and into the box, which makes him a potential threat. He also hit the post.
Semenyo & Cherki: Both had a quiet game and didn’t really show enough to give me much confidence going forward. A lot of the balls played towards Semenyo were simply passed back.
Mbeumo: He had the most shots in the game (3), but his finishing was poor. He had a chance to equalise late on, but Donnarumma made the save.
Bruno: Apart from one good shot, I didn’t really see much from him. He created just one chance, which is a poor performance for a £12m midfielder.
City Defence : Donnarumma saved City with his saves. They shouldn’t really have kept a clean sheet and were fortunate to do so, with United hitting the woodwork twice. Donnarumma’s individual performance, however, was excellent.
Final Thoughts
I’m disappointed with United, but for now I’m not selling Bruno. I might not include him in my Wildcard, though.
For City, Haaland is enough for me, while Enzo could be an interesting differential option.
